Chapter Thirteen
On page 130, Mary Ellen explains that "The oxen were so worn out that they had to be goaded to start..."
What do you think "goaded" means? Why do you think that?
I think that goaded means that they were tired out and not getting enough food and sleep. I think that means not to get enough food exc. because before the train split up Mary Ellen's dad said "We should let our oxen graze and rest" so, the oxen must have been tired and going slow before that and now they can keep on going for a longer time period.
I think goaded means push to get started because goaded has go in it.
ReplyDeleteI think goaded means to need serious determination.
ReplyDeleteI also think that goaded means you have to push them to start.
